ABC Picks Up Comedy 'Shifting Gears' Starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings

ABC is officially reuniting with Tim Allen for a new sitcom. The former Home Improvement and Last Man Standing star headlines the original comedy series Shifting Gears, which has released a series order today by the broadcast network.

The comedy will center on Matt (Allen), the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt's estranged danger Riley and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.

In addition to Allen, the comedy will star Kat Dennings as Riley, Daryl "Chill" Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia. Froy Gutierrez also appeared in the pilot as Nick but the role will be recast moving forward.

Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully wrote the pilot, which was directed by John Pasquin. However, the Scullys will not be continuing with the series. A search is already underway to find a new showrunner for the comedy. Allen and Pasquin will executive produce with Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina. Dennings will also serve as a producer. 20th Television will produce.
