Amazon Cancels 'American Rust' After Two Seasons

Amazon has today decided to cancel its original drama series American Rust after two seasons. The drama completed its 19-episode run on March 28, 2024.

Across its two seasons, the drama starred Jeff Daniels, Maura Tierney, David Alvarez, Alex Neustaedter, Julie Mayorga, Mark Pellegrino, Rob Yang, Kyle Beltran, Luna Lauren Velez, Marc Menchaca, Nick Sandow, Britian Seibert, Christopher Denham, Amelia Workman, Leon Addison Brown and Sara Lindsey.

Dan Futterman developed the drama based on the novel by Philipp Meyer. He executive produced with Daniels, Adam Rapp, Paul Martino, Michael De Luca, Ivan Schneeberg, David Fortier, Nick Nantell, Katie O'Connell Marsh and Elisa Ellis. Amazon MGM Studios, Boat Rocker Studios and SouthSlope Pictures produced.

The drama originally aired its first season on Showtime in Fall 2021. It was ultimately cancelled by the network a few months later. In June 2022, it was revived by Amazon Freevee and ultimately moved to Amazon Prime Video for its second season, subtitled Broken Justice - which was released as a binge earlier this year.
