'Dexter: Resurrection' Starring Michael C. Hall Ordered to Series at Showtime

The Dexter franchise is expanding once more. At the panel for the upcoming prequel Dexter: Original Sin at San Diego Comic-Con, Showtime confirmed a series order for the sequel series Dexter: Resurrection with Michael C. Hall reprising his role as Dexter Morgan.

Dexter: Resurrection will become the fourth series in the overall franchise. The original series Dexter produced eight seasons and aired from October 2006 to September 2013. The series was revived with a limited series follow-up Dexter: New Blood in November 2021. Meanwhile, the upcoming prequel is currently in production with Patrick Gibson playing a younger version of the character in 1991 Miami.

While production will commence in January 2025, no specific plot details were revealed about what will occur on Dexter: Resurrection. Notably, New Blood concluded with Dexter seemingly being murdered by his son Harrison (Jack Alcott).

The Comic-Con panel also confirmed that Hall will serve as narrator on Dexter: Original Sin. He was already an executive producer on the series.

"We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime's most successful series ever," said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. "While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well."
