MGM+ has today decided to cancel two of its original drama series - Beacon 23 after two seasons and The Winter King after one season. It's currently unclear if the production companies will try to shop the dramas to other outlets.
Beacon 23 starred Lena Headey, Stephan James, Marnie McPhail, Daniel Malik, Carolina Bartczak, Cyrus Faird, Sydney Ozerov-Meyer, Hannah Melissa Scott and Tara Rosling.
Zak Penn developed the drama based on the novel by Hugh Howey. He executive produced with Headey, James, Glen Mazzara, Ira Steven Behr, Tina Thor, Katie O'Connell, Elisa Ellis, Joy Blake and Katherine Pope. MGM+ Studios, Boat Rocker Media, Spectrum Originals, Studio 8 Television, Platform One Media and Peephole Productions produced.
The drama completed its 16-episode run on May 26, 2024.
The Winter King starred Iain De Caestecker, Stuart Campbell, Ellie James, Steven Elder, Valene Kane, Simon Merrells, Ken Nwosu, Olumide Olorunfemi, Billy Postlethwaite, Daniel Ings, Nathaniel Martello-White, Eddie Marsan, Tatjana Nardone, Andrew Gower, Matt Mella, Aneirin Hughes, Gabriel Tierney, Jordan Alexandra, Emily John and Craig Parkinson.
Kate Brooke and Ed Whitmore developed the drama based on the novel "The Warlord Chronicles" by Bernard Cornwell. They executive produced with Jane Tranter, Lachlan MacKinnon, Julie Gardner, Otto Bathurst, Toby Leslie, Sherry Marsh, Shelley Browning and Kenneth L. Browning. Sony Pictures Television, Bad Wolf and One Big Picture produced.
The drama finished its 10-episode run on November 5, 2023.
