"Missing While Perfect" was written by Sonay Hoffman and directed by Kevin Berlandi
In the immediate aftermath of her escape twenty years ago, Bella continually said she kept seeing Sir. That caused a lot of damage and uncertainty. It resulted in Bella being unable to speak. Moreover, she fell off a balcony believing that he was invading her life once more. Gabi proclaimed that she would never allow that monster to hurt Bella ever again. However, it was better for everyone to believe that Sir was nothing more than a figment of Bella's imagination. When she sees him, she should close her eyes and count to three. Then, he will disappear. That allowed her to gain confidence and move on with her life. She was prepared when Sir came back. He was real though. He truly was stalking her. He knew where she was. She needed proper help to address these issues. And yet, the advice given to her was a coping mechanism that ignored the truth. It was better to believe in the fantasy. The threat was too scary to acknowledge as real. That now leaves Lacey terrified whenever she sees Sir. She escaped him once more. She is released from the hospital. She still suffers from a traumatic brain injury. That leaves her to believe her mind is playing tricks on her.

Lacey's family at the firm is worried about her. She doesn't remember the conversation where Gabi confessed to abducting Sir and keeping him chained in her basement. She doesn't recall that Gabi was responsible for bringing this monster back into their lives. Sir is making big plans. He is preparing for a life abroad with Gabi. That even has the possibility of locking her up in a basement. He is doing his research. He's putting things into motion. He's also engaged in the work being done at Mosely and Associates. The employees want to be distracted by work. However, they no longer trust Gabi. That has to be rebuilt over time. Moreover, Trent hasn't arrested her yet. He only now approaches his captain with Gabi's confession. He's ready to send her to jail. Shockingly, the captain expresses skepticism. This season has shown him as more understanding of Gabi's plight. He has empathy for the terror she has lived with. He needs Trent to build a stronger case that can actually hold up in the criminal justice system. Gabi says she's willing to be held accountable for her crimes. She hasn't done any of that yet. Instead, she continues to work just like she previously did. She gets to enjoy her freedom for awhile longer.
Tension remains between Gabi and Trent. Their dynamic remains the most fraught. When Lacey regains her memories, she still responds with joy. She sees the power in the work they do. It can't be derailed because of what Gabi did to Sir. That resulted in more trauma. Zeke and Margaret were willing to walk away. However, no one is coming forward to cooperate with Trent's investigation. In fact, they push him away because he represents a form of authority the firm's clients can't trust. Jay is skeptical about sharing any details of his missing parents while Trent is present. Even then, he withholds some key details. Gabi still believes Jay. The story eventually dovetails in a way that personally resonates with Trent. He sees the signs of domestic abuse before anyone else. He has personal experience as his sister was in an abusive marriage. He understands the impulse to want to kill someone after the system fails to provide justice. That offers the possibility he could eventually forgive Gabi for what she did. They aren't there yet. That uncertainty may always remain so long as Sir remains free. In fact, Sir only knows about the latest case because he follows Trent. The two almost have a confrontation. And yet, Sir magically disappears once again. That continues to grow in annoyance. The message continues to be delivered about the power of this one man.
Of course, it's strange how Lacey freaks out upon seeing Sir on security footage Zeke has installed around the firm but no one else sees it. That plays into the concern that it's all in her head. The audience knows better. The viewer sees the invasion by Sir too. As such, it robs the story of a lot of its drama. The narrative attempts to get it back through the dramatic cliffhanger. Lacey and Zeke have a very sweet moment where he comforts her in bed. He is amazed by how her spirit hasn't been broken by all that she has endured. And then, he wakes up to an alarm and Lacey missing. It suggests that Sir has taken her again. It's incredibly melodramatic. The show can get away with that when it comes to Sir prompting Gabi to think differently about the case. That allows her to put the pieces together of who was the true victim. Sure, Sam was still arrested. Uncertainty comes from whether Kate will be punished too. She isn't. She reunites with her son. Jay is strong because of how his mother raised him. That's empowering. It creates a story that moves the viewer while providing a complete resolution. And then, the twist occurs with Lacey to create drama that spans multiple episodes. Lacey doesn't deserve that punishment. However, it's being thrust upon her nevertheless in a way to entice everyone to keep tuning in and fearing for her safety.
