Starz Cancels 'The Serpent Queen' After Two Seasons

Starz has today decided to cancel its original drama series The Serpent Queen after two seasons. However, the network is now in early development on a potential spinoff featuring Minnie Driver reprising her role as Queen Elizabeth I from the same creative team.

The drama starred Samantha Morton, Amrita Acharia, Ruby Bentall, Alexandre Willaume, Enzo Cilenti, Emma McDonald, Nicholas Burns, Beth Goddard, Raza Jaffrey, Danny Kirrane, Ray Panthaki, Angus Imrie, Bill Milner, Stanley Morgan and Philippine Velge.

Justin Haythe developed the drama based on the novel "Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France" by Leonie Frieda. He executive produced with Stacie Passon, Francis Lawrence and Erwin Stoff. Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment produced.

The drama completed its 16-episode run across two seasons on August 30, 2024.
