Disney+ has today given a series order to a limited series revival of the original comedy series Malcolm in the Middle, which originally aired on FOX for seven seasons between January 2000 and May 2006. The revival will produce four episodes.
The original series saw young genius Malcolm trying to navigate life with his quirky, often difficult family. In the revival, Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into the family's chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.
Original cast members Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek have officially signed on to reprise their roles as Malcolm, Hal and Lois, respectively.
Linwood Boomer created the original series and will return as writer. He also will executive produce with Cranston, Tracy Katsky, Gail Berman, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann and director Ken Kwapis. Jimmy Simons and Laura Delahaye will co-executive produce. 20th Television and New Regency will produce the revival.
All 151 episodes of the original series run are available to stream on Hulu or via Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers. The comedy received a Peabody Award in 2000 and won a Grammy Award in 2001 for the song "Boss of Me." Across its seven seasons, the comedy was nominated for 33 Emmy Awards and prevailed seven times.
