AppleTV+ Announces Premiere Date for New Comedy 'Government Cheese' Starring David Oyelowo

AppleTV+ has today announced the premiere date for its upcoming original comedy series Government Cheese starring David Oyelowo.

The 10-episode first season will premiere on Wednesday, April 16 with its first four episodes. New episodes will then be released weekly every Wednesday until the season finale on May 28.

The surrealist family comedy set in 1969 San Fernando Valley tells the story of the Chambers, a quirky family pursuing lofty and seemingly impossible dreams, beautifully unfettered by the realities of the world. When Hampton Chambers (Oyelowo) is released from prison, his long-awaited family reunion doesn't go quite as planned. During his absence, Hampton's wife, Astoria, and sons, Einstein and Harrison, have formed an unconventional family unit, and Hampton's return spins their world into chaos.

In addition to Oyelowo, the comedy stars Simone Missick, Jahi Di'Allo Winston, Evan Ellison, Bokeem Woodbine, Jeremy Bobb, Louis Cancelmi, Julien Heron, Djilali Rez-Kallah, Louis Ferreira, Thomas Beaudoin, Kyle Mac, John Ortiz and Adam Beach.

Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr created the comedy, with Hunter also directing. They executive produce with Oyelowo, Charles D. King, Marta Fernandez and Ali Brown. Apple Studios, MACRO Television Studios, Yoruba Saxon Productions and Ventureland produce.
