"Missing While Outed" was written by Troy Kelly and directed by Rob Hardy
The previous episode featured an ambiguous ending. The fates of Dhan, Trent and Sir were left unknown. Dhan went into surgery after being shot. Meanwhile, Gabi heard another gunshot outside of Trent's home where the detective was being confronted by her kidnapper. Ultimately, everyone emerges largely unharmed. Yes, Dhan needs time to recover. In the span of this episode though, he's already back at work. M&A remains his family. This work provides him with purpose. That remains clear to him despite the resentment it evokes within Ethan. Dhan makes his priorities known. Gabi doesn't want him to worry. Sir continues to escalate. However, he escapes Trent despite the detective having another gun on him. No one was injured in their confrontation. Gabi told Trent to take the shot. Sir pleaded about finally fixing her M&A family. The lights were cut. Someone else made that decision. Sir escaped into the darkness once more. He wasn't alone when he took this risk in the aim of saving Gabi from imprisonment. She remains the only thing he can think about. His partner believes they are the only one caring about his life. He's still treating his prior injuries. Yet he remains an imposing figure targeting everyone in this world. He won't be stopped until someone puts an end to his rampage. He's gotten away with these tactics for over twenty years. Nothing has fundamentally changed in that regard.

Everyone believes they have to put their plans into motion. Trent receives the green light to execute a search warrant and arrest Gabi within the next 24 hours. He warns Gabi about it. Everyone is essentially coming around to forgiving her for what she did to Sir. It's more important now for each of them to be fighting to save her. It requires a reality check from Lacey's mother. She knows how Sir operates too. She needs the M&A family to be just as committed to protecting Gabi whether she wants it or not. Gabi has pushed away their attempts to help her. She believed she deserved this punishment. She can never be forgiven for what she did. The team has done just that. Their lives were complicated because of this secret. It nearly destroyed everything. However, the team has continued to lean on each other. They have found peace. It's been difficult. It has required them to move on from placing all of their emotional needs on Gabi. They aren't perfect either. They are willing to embrace this new reality. They are no longer blinded by the anger they once felt. That doesn't serve anyone well. Their dynamics with Gabi have changed. Yet they are at peace with her remaining in their lives. The work is too important. They need to keep finding the people who have no one else looking for them.
Gabi believes the latest case will be her last. She has a limited amount of time to find Jared. He was outed on video during a fraternity hazing event. Margaret sees the sincere shock in his face when that moment occurs. He's embarrassed. However, the story overwhelmingly uplifts Jared. He's the strong person everyone else in turmoil leans on. He's the perfect roommate. He's understanding of people who aren't ready to come out. He gives others strength at their lowest points. He just isn't completely honest with his parents. He has no reason to hide from them. They are accepting of who he is. He needed to find himself at college. He needed to be proud in doing so as well. That's what this experience provides. It ended in near disaster because he got in an accident. He spent hours on the side of the road with life-threatening injuries. He was found. He's on the path to recovery. The only malicious intent came from the fraternity brother who thought upholding traditional values made homophobia acceptable. It's also inferred that the campus culture is rather toxic. Gabi threatens the president into action. That doesn't really matter. The show paints a picture of a more engaging world Jared resides in. In reality, the personal details of just a few individuals matter. That creates the backbone of the story while the rest is merely a distraction.
Similarly, it's seemingly confirmed that Christian is Sir's accomplice. He knows precisely where to find his brother. The RV isn't hidden from him. However, he's also surprised by what he finds there. He's taken aback by Sir's continued dependence on painkillers. Moreover, he asks for help becoming a fugitive. It's not because of the actions the siblings allegedly took together. It's instead out of being guilty by association. Christian has been named a person of interest. He's the only figure who makes sense in this investigation. His life has been ruined as a result. He expects his brother to help him because he is responsible for this disaster. Sir refuses. He only cares about his future plans with Gabi. He is prepared to strike at night. He moves up his travel plans. He won't let Christian compromise things. He acts swiftly to prevent any complications. That means leaving his brother behind injured. Trent eventually gets the call that the RV has been found. He's presumedly told that Christian was still unconscious there. That too is ambiguous. The current run of episodes thrives on leaving things with intense, unclear endings. That way the audience is willing to engage in what comes next. Sir sneaks into the M&A office once more. That's where he plans to make his move. The family is protecting Gabi at her home. That confrontation doesn't occur. It looms though. Everything has to come to a head. The show can only keep this high pressure and ambiguity up for so long before it needs to follow through.
