Netflix Picks Up New Comedy 'She the People' Created by Tyler Perry

During the Next on Netflix presentation today, the streamer gave a series order to the original comedy series She the People created by Tyler Perry. The streamer also announced the return date for more episodes of the drama Beauty in Black.





In She the People, Lieutenant Governor candidate Antoinette Dunkerson runs a successful campaign and must now figure out how to thrive under a sexist and condescending governor while attempting to keep her family in line now that they're all in the public eye.

The comedy will star Terri J. Vaughn, Jade Novah, Drew Olivia Tillman, Tré Body, Dyon Brooks and Jo Marie Payton.

Perry will write and direct the comedy. He will also executive produce with Vaughn, Niya Palmer and former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. Angi Bones and Tony Strickland will serve as producers. Tyler Perry Studios will produce in association with Netflix.

Beauty in Black will return with the remaining eight episodes of its first season - dubbed Part 2 - on Thursday, March 6.

While Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out and Mallory is running a successful business, they find themselves entangled in each other's lives.

The drama stars Taylor Polidore Williams, Crystle Stewart, Amber Reign Smith, Ricco Ross, Debbi Morgan, Richard Lawson, Steven G. Norfleet, Julian Horton, Terrell Carter, Shannon Wallace, Bryan Tanaka, Joy Rovaris, Xavier Smalls, Charles Malik Whitfield, Tamera "Tee" Kissen, Ursula O. Robinson, Ashley Versher, George Middlebrook and Ts Madison.

Perry created the drama. He writes, directs and executive produces the series. Angi Bones and Tony Strickland serve as producers. Tyler Perry Studios produces in association with Netflix.
