Gabi's power was taken away when Sir kidnapped her. She has long pursued to get it back. The dynamics switched when she had Sir locked up in her basement. That ultimately tainted every good thing she did at work. The M&A team rescued numerous lives. They reunited families and loved ones. It didn't over any atonement. It didn't seek to absolve Gabi and Sir of the pain from their past. It only enhanced the trauma further. It placed them in each other's lives so they could continue to torture one another. The greatest sign of maturity is in Gabi walking away. She couldn't do that previously because Sir remained a threat. He was free. He could do whatever he wanted to her or her team. He inserted himself into cases when Gabi didn't want him. He continued to compromise the sanctity of this work. Gabi has her freedom now. Sir refuses to incriminate her. She wanted punishment for her crime. She doesn't receive that satisfaction. Instead, she must seek out her penance in other ways. The cases have been life-affirming and fulfilling to the rest of the team. They grow stronger in themselves thanks to Gabi's guidance. Now, she requires that same acceptance.

Gabi receives a call from an old friend. Bernie is worried after something happened to his sister, Violet. The two have been living together. They have a contentious relationship. Bernie blames Violet for his wife's death. Violet was given the responsibility of making end-of-life medical decisions. Bernie couldn't do what his wife wanted. Violet had to be strong enough to overcome it. That caused more pain and friction. The family was divided because Bernie blamed his sister. He couldn't accept that his wife had reached her natural conclusion. He needed someone to be responsible. They deserved all of his animosity. That prevented him from experiencing grief and learning how to live with it. He fundamentally changed after the funeral. Gabi was saved by Bernie once. She has never been religious. However, she saw comfort in the certainty Bernie operated with as a pastor. He was moved by his faith. That made a difference in so many people's lives. The church hasn't been the same since he left. He could no longer life up to his reputation. Instead, he wallowed in despair. He desperately needs help. Otherwise, he will be arrested for this crime.
Gabi's instincts are her superpower. If she believes in someone's innocence, she will do whatever it takes to prove it. She listens when others do not. She built this skill following her own tragic experience with Sir. She needed to find a way to trust people again. She assembled this team. They needed help. She fixed them. They still have problems. The work provides purpose. It encourages them. They do something good for the world. Gabi knows Bernie couldn't have committed this crime. She knows who he is despite the doubts that now plague him. The central clue was missing from the crime scene. Jamie took it. He too had to do many compromising things in order to survive. He still remains elusive about any details regarding his disappearance. The team remains suspicious of him. His presence doesn't compromise their ability to save a life. Violet wants atonement as well. She blames herself for what happened. It's easy to form that mentality because that's what everyone has been telling her. She was cold in choosing to let a woman die. It wasn't an act of love. It was selfish. That is so far from the truth. She embodied it fully. She didn't believe she was deserving of happiness. This experience has taught her so much. The M&A team imparts that wisdom. The siblings must confront the true pain in order to move forward. They do so. The future is promising once more for them. It's all thanks to Gabi and her relentless pursuit of the truth.
Margaret needs that assistance from Gabi in order to get answers as to what happened to Jamie. That has always been a foundational aspect of their relationship. It's gotten more heightened now because Jamie has returned. Of course, the DNA test results were inconclusive. That frustrates Dhan. And yet, the evidence points to Jamie having a connection to Margaret's past. In his jacket alongside the brooch was a train that went missing from the house after his disappearance. Margaret didn't know that detail was so crucial. She remembers touching it in the immediate aftermath. And so, that establishes a new theory of the case. She must look at people who knew her personally. They holds the answers for Jamie's disappearance. He still has to explain some things. He remains more interested in Gabi and her behavior instead of reuniting with the rest of his family. Margaret disappeared from them because she couldn't abandon Jamie. She can't let him out of her sight now either. It's important. That's the only way for her to feel safe. Gabi will help her. She will follow her instincts wherever they lead. She must retain the same mentality elsewhere as well. She doesn't believe Christian was Sir's accomplice. And now, Christian has been found dead. Trent was willing to make a deal when Gabi wouldn't. That didn't offer any peace or comfort. It simply forges a reason to keep Sir involved in their lives. Gabi is done. She no longer needs him. She has her emotional fulfillment elsewhere. Sir won't go quietly. He is always scheming. He has a plan. Plus, he probably still has tons of secrets left to reveal.
