AppleTV+ has today announced the premiere date for its upcoming original limited series Chief of War created by and starring Jason Momoa.
The 9-episode limited series will launch on Friday, August 1 with its first two episodes. New episodes will then be released weekly every Friday until the season finale on September 19.
Performed by a predominantly Polynesian cast, the series follows the epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawai'i at the turn of the 18th century. Based on true events, warrior Ka'iana (Momoa) tries to unify the islands before Western colonization.
In addition to Momoa, the series stars Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale'o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka and Te Kohe Tuhaka.
Momoa co-created the series with Thomas Pa'a Sibbett, while Doug Jung serves as showrunner. All three executive produce with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook, Brian Andrew Mendoza, Anders Engström, Jim Rowe, Molly Allen, Francis Lawrence, Tim Van Patten and director Justin Chon. Fifth Season and Chernin Entertainment produce.
