Netflix has today given a series order to the original drama series Nemesis starring Matthew Law (The Oval, Abbott Elementary) and Y'lan Noel (Lady in the Lake, Insecure). An episode count and premiere date window were not immediately announced.
The drama will detail the story of two men on either side of the law, the tale of what happens when an unstoppable force (an expert criminal), Coltrane Wilder (Noel), meets an immovable object (a brilliant police detective), Isaiah Stiles (Law). What starts as a series that aims to subvert the heist genre at every turn, amped with thrilling life-or-death stakes, family dynamics and explosive action, actually gives birth to an exploration of what drives us, sustains us, and ultimately destroys us.
The drama will also star Cleopatra Coleman (Clipped, The Last Man on Earth) as Ebony Wilder, Coltrane Wilder's wife; Tre Hale (Platonic, All American) as Darren "Stro" Stroman, Coltrane's right-hand man; Domenick Lombardozzi (Ray Donovan, Tulsa King) as Dave Cerullo; Jonnie Park (Power, Quiz Lady) as Chris Choi, the crew's getaway driver; and Ariana Guerra (CSI: Vegas, Helstrom) as Yvette Cruz, a LAPD detective.
Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole created the drama. They will executive produce with Chris Selak, Philipp Barnett and director Mario Van Peebles. End of Episode will produce in association with Netflix.
"Viewers are in for a ride with Nemesis, Courtney and Tani's bold take on the crime drama genre," said Nne Ebong, Vice President of Studio Scripted Series, Netflix. "Courtney's shows have proven to dominate culture and conversation, and it's exciting to have this be the first project from our creative partnership."
"Tani and I are excited to bring a hard-hitting psychological crime drama to Netflix, specific in location, but broad in universal themes of right and wrong, love and loss, and loyalty vs. self-preservation," added Kemp. "We are grateful to Bela, Peter, Jinny and Nne for their support, keeping this production in Los Angeles and getting local crews back to work."
